16.5.15.

A better morning than I expected. Mostly a cloudy start, but it did turn sunny, although it was windy at times.

Had an eventful drive to Highgate Common this morning, stopped 3 times to photograph wildlife…

Firstly 2 Red-legged Partridge were walking up the lane….

Secondly, a real shock. I had never seen a Mole before, so imagine my shock at seeing two. I first thought they could be breeding. But just before they shuffled off at a fast rate, one came out the grass, and ran back in. Looking at my photos when I got home, I think they were sniffing out the Slug on the bottom left of this photo…

Just above the Golf course there was this Skylark. Not a bad threesome, and I hadn’t even got out the car…

At the Wardens office I spotted this very small Larva. As yet its unidentified. But it looks similar to a Geometridae…

Next spotted the first of 2 new moths at the Wardens Office. This one is called a Flame Shoulder. It was awkward to photograph, being so near one of The Highgate Common Leaflet Boxes….

The second new moth to my list was unexpected. Because I had thought it was a Common Wave, I even told Ken, thats what I thought it was. When I looked at the photos at home, I noticed 2 small spots, so decided to check the Common Wave out. Turns out the Common Wave has got no spots. Soon found the correct ID with it being a Cream Wave…

There was a 3rd moth, which I have seen a lot. Its a Garden Carpet…

IMG_7065

This next butterfly confused me. With it being well worn this Small Copper looked a bit different to normal…

IMG_7067

I wonder if Brown Argus also keep dry under Dandelions?…

IMG_7070

Red Campion…

IMG_7066

One of the many Ichneumon Wasps. Might be Ophion…

IMG_7068

The first Silver Y I have spotted this year…

IMG_7069

Lesser Black-backed Gull over…

IMG_7080

This is now my fourth species of Nomada Bee I have identified this year. This one being Nomada Bee Goodeniana…

IMG_7073

This next red beetle is new to me. When I saw it first I thought I had another Apoderus coryli. But I noticed it was way more shiny and round. Also it had not got the elongated head. This one is called Attelabus nitens…

IMG_7074

Saw 2 Drinker Moth Larva. Just hope one turns up at the Wardens Office as a Adult Moth…

IMG_7077

I think this next beetle is a Soldier Beetle…Cantharis decipiens…
