25.5.15.

Started the morning off as usual checking out the lights at The Wardens Office. I found 3 moths, and photographed 2.

There was another Green Carpet, but it was really high up. Only problem when the moths are up high, is that I have to stretch and try to focus at the same time. Which gives me a few problems with camera shake. But at least I did manage (although poor) a photograph today! This Green Carpet is a fresh one, because as they age the green fades. I really wish it had been lower….

Also high up was this Six-plume Moth…

With it being sunnier today, there were plenty Nomada Bee’s on the Bilberry…

IMG_7287

I found my second Click Beetle (Denticollis linearis). This one seemed a slightly different colour to the ones I usually find…

Thanks to some of the volunteer’s at Highgate Common, who planted what look like Flag Iris in the Island Pool. Thats going to add a beautiful splash of colour very soon…

IMG_7288

As yet these Black Larvae are Unidentified…

IMG_7290

Loads of Ichneumon Wasps in the trees today…

IMG_7291 IMG_7292

I think this Hairy Shieldbug’s been watching the dogs on The Common too much…

IMG_7294

Great to see my 1st Dragonfly this year. This one being a Broad-bodied Chaser male. I found it sunning itself on Brants Hill…

IMG_7279 IMG_7278

Also on Brants Hill there were good numbers of Garden Chafers…

IMG_7295

I got my first decent photo of a Large White this year. The others I’ve seen have all been flying and never landing…

IMG_7280

The Speckled Wood numbers were up today. Lets Hope the Dry Weather continues…

IMG_7281

I think this is an Early Mining Bee (Andrena haemorrhoa) with loads of pollen collected…

IMG_7296 IMG_7297

When I was taking this photo of this Unidentified Larva I did not notice the very small Unidentified Bug close by. It wasn’t till I saw the photo at home, that I realised the Bug was there…

IMG_7299IMG_7300

Really good numbers of Brown Argus today. I took these 3, on a variety of flowers…

IMG_7304 IMG_7302 IMG_7303

This Small Yellow Underwing confused me. The Yellow actually looks more white….

IMG_7306

This is now my 3rd species of Longhorn Moth this year (only ever seen two species before). This one is called Yellow-barred Longhorn Moth (Nemophora degeerella). I saw three of these today. This was the commonist last year…

IMG_7307 IMG_7308

The Peacock…

IMG_7282

Mistle Thrush…

IMG_7283

I saw quite a few Cinnabar moths today…

IMG_7309

I only saw my 1st ever Common Roller, just over a week ago at Wyre Forest. So its nice to find one on Highgate Common…

IMG_7310

For me its always a highlight finding Green Hairstreak. I actually saw 2 today. The 1st one zoomed by, and vanished into the Bramble, so not a chance for a photo. This one flew off the Bilberry and landed on a Bramble leaf, just as the sun went in, and a slight breeze came. Which meant it never moved all the while I was getting some photo’s…

IMG_7311IMG_7312

Stretch Spider from the family Tetragnathidar…

IMG_7313

I quite like this photo of 2 mating Large Red Damselflies. It shows the the thickness of stripes, and the pattern difference between the Male and Female. Male on top, with thinner black stripes…

IMG_7314

I saw loads of Red and Black Froghoppers side by side today…
