I would say the most numerous moth over the last month are the Green Carpet…

IMG_2682

The only other wildlife I photographed was a distant Blue Tit feeding on a Bulrush. Plus a distant Long-tailed Tit on a Pine near the Dog Pool…

Sunday

What a difference a day makes. Really sunny and warm day. With the temperature up to 19.5ºC

Another difference from yesterday, was the amount of photo opportunities I got today. Strangely there wasn’t any moths to photograph at the Wardens Office. With this being the case, and a bit more time on our hands, we decided to check out the Mere Farm Pools. There were good numbers of Canada and Greylag Geese in the nearby field….

IMG_4964 IMG_5104

Also at the pool were at least 10 Pied Wagtails…

IMG_5043

Common Buzzard down Mere Lane…

IMG_5179

Glad Ken got to see two Common Lizards today. I wish I had been a bit quicker on the first one we saw. It was sunning itself on a Silver Birch trunk…

IMG_1226

This is the first Fly Agaric we’ve seen this side of summer….

IMG_1679

Plenty of Swallows over HC today! I always try to improve on previous flight photos. I did not manage that today. But I did get a juvenile, probably calling to be fed. I do believe the parents can actually feed them in flight….

IMG_5510

I didn’t notice till I examined these photos at home, that this male Southern Hawker had a complete hindwing missing…

IMG_1544 IMG_1632

With the sun being warm, and not so much wind about today. It was one of our best days for butterflies. Most of them were feeding on the beautiful Heather. We are also now pretty confident we are seeing White Letter Hairstreaks at a couple of sites on HC, unfortunately none are landing to have a chance of a photo. Next 7 species are all on Heather…

Red Admiral…

IMG_5304 IMG_5435

We saw 2 Painted Ladies, one really well worn…

This Meadow Brown was the 1st butterfly I took this morning. It reminded me of the subject of Dew from yesterday’s post. I felt a bit sorry for it really in the long dew wet grass. Not only has it got dew on its leg and antenna, its also got a droplet on its eye….

IMG_1199

With a Straw Dot (Moth) on The Staffordshire Wildlife Trust truck photographed a couple of weeks ago. It was the turn of a butterfly today.  With this well worn Comma sitting on the Logo on the Bonnet…

Must say I really enjoyed today’s walk over HC.

Saturday

Grey and dull start to the day. Also feeling cooler now, with it only being 10ºC. But In a couple of months time, I dare say I will missing even 10ºC temperatures.

Checked out The Wardens Lights first thing. Only four moths there. Including 2 Canary-shouldered Thorns. But I think I’ve posted enough images of that beautiful moth. The other moths there were a very worn Bordered Pug (Top Photo) and another Flounced Rustic…

IMG_0470 IMG_0488

The Rowan trees seem to have plenty of berries on. Lets hope we have a Waxwing year, and some turn up to feed on these berries at HC…

IMG_0623

I really do think The Staffordshire Wildlife Trust are doing a great job keeping the Bracken at bay. So giving the Heather room to spread. I also think this year the Heathers seems to have given a beautiful show. So glad it appears that the Heather Beetles had little affect on these important plants for The Common. With the trees starting to turn into their autumn colours this was the scene on Goldie Heath this morning…

IMG_1053

It was a strangely quiet morning on the photography front. So needing some inspiration I noticed some of the Honeysuckle with Dew on it (Next Photo). So this gave me an idea, for what I could take photos of this visit. So the rest of the photos will be with a touch Dew in them.  Can I say these are all natural, and no plant sprayer was used in the making….LOL…

Honeysuckle…
