14.5.16.

Saturday… Mainly sunny day, with Gale Force Winds in East Yorkshire…9ºC but felt much colder, although sunny…kept coat and gloves on most of the day.

Bempton Cliffs RSPB…Me and Ken arrived a 6:30am, and quickly made for the cliffs. It soon came apparent, that this was not going to be easy getting photos. The wind time after time whip lashed the lens from side to side. Also the birds seemed to be enjoying the strong winds as they zoomed by. Add to that watering eyes, and at times it seemed impossible. One of my main goals today was to get better photos of Fulmar. Must admit this proved very frustrating, with the speed and agility of the Fulmar.

Just going to post names of birds with the odd comment.

Guillemot…Plus a White Bridled variety…

I over heard someone say that there seemed very low numbers of Puffin at Bempton today. I actually thought there was good numbers. In fact took loads of photos…

Plenty of Tree Sparrows were nesting in the Visitors Centre roof. This one was close to feeding station…

Me and Ken thought we were back at HC when we heard this Tree Pipit singing on a fence post…

The next 3 photos have left me with a Bitter-Sweet moment. Although I was pleased to at least manage a few photos of these Turbo Charged Fulmers. I know if the wind had not been so strong I would have managed my main goal for the day….

For the afternoon part of the day, we decided to head off to Flamborough Head. Also a caravan park, with its own bird hides…

At the Head itself, we came across the slowest Pay and Display Car Park machine I have ever come across. We decided to have 3 hours to look for possible rarities blown in with the strong wind. Only problem, I had only just took the below photo, and the winds blew in a mass of dark clouds, which quickly emptied their contents. With no end to the clouds in the distance, we decided to cut the day short, and head home….

Must say although cold and very windy, it was still a fantastic day!!!!
